October, 11-12 there was held a Scientific-practical conference on "Prevention, diagnosis and management of acute exacerbations of bronchial asthma" within the V National asthma-congress at the Hyatt Regency (Kiev).

All the leading allergists and pulmonologists in Ukraine, as well as the guests from Italy and Germany gathered to exchange experiences at the conference.

Lyudmila A. Yashina in her report on a molecule of Montelucast that is new for domestic medicine, talked about the prospects of a leukotriene-receptor antagonists in controlling asthma and shared the results of a Study of Lucast, tablets 10 mg, manufactured by Pharma International, that was conducted in the Institute of phtisiology and pulmonology named by F.G. Janowski.

Lukast, tablets 10 mg, showed good efficacy in steroid-naive patients with asthma of mild to moderate severity. Montelucast may be an alternative to inhalation corticosteroids in the early stages of treatment of bronchial asthma.
